Background.

James “Logan” Howlett was born in a small town close to Alberta, Canada circa 1832. From a young age, he suffered with various illnesses that left him frail and weak. After his father was killed by the groundskeeper who is Victor Creed's father, his powers emerged and he killed the man responsible. He soon found out that the groundskeeper was his real father, and adopted the name Logan in his memory. He ran away, and tried his best to survive out in the world alongside his half brother Victor Creed.

They fought in various wars -- using their feral mutations to give them the upper hand. They joined a shady "military" operation aka Team X. Logan began noticing the disparity in blood thirst between him and his brother as well as the corruption and dubious actions of Stryker and Team X. He took off after a stint in Africa where they searched for Adamantium. He tried to live a normal life alongside Kayla, his lover, but believing she was killed, he sought out Victor in revenge. Manipulated, Logan agreed to undergo an experiment in order to get stronger to defeat his half brother. Stryker intended to make Logan his weapon. Weapon X.

After having endured an extreme amount of pain by getting adamantium laced into his bones, Logan managed to escape and eventually found out the truth behind everything -- Kayla, Victor and Stryker's intent on experimenting with mutants. Stryker took away Logan's memories by shooting him in the head with an adamantium bullet.

Afterwards Logan wandered through the Canadian Rockies for about fifteen years, trying to survive despite not knowing who he was, or where he came from. The only thing he knew was that his name was Logan, and he was a mutant. He ran into a young girl Rogue along the way. However, the X-men find them when they get targeted by Sabertooth. They help him and take him to Xavier’s institute, where he met Professor Charles Xavier, a telepath who can give him answers he’d been searching for years. He formed a bond with all the mutants there and soon became part of the X-Men.

Personality.

Logan is a complex man often perceived as solely animalistic or short tempered, and although true to a certain extent, there’s much more to this man. Being that he is a feral mutant, meaning his mutation gives him abilities of an animal (ie: enhanced senses, claws), it also ties in how he processes the world. His emotions are strong especially to outside stimuli, and therefore he can easily be misunderstood. Usually the stronger of his emotions tends to be anger, because he reverts back to an atavistic state of mind. But that doesn’t mean he’s always on edge, or always angry. He’s not a ticking time bomb and will not lash out aggressively unless provoked. (Feral berserker Logan is another deal.)

Although he can be surly or ornery at times, he can also be a great listening ear. When not stuck in a loop of self-hatred that is. He’s the type of guy that can show tough love, but also call you darlin’ and tell you to think about the good memories.

Logan doesn’t love halfway. Once he forms a connection to someone, whether it’d be a romantic relationship or a friendship, he will be protective and loyal to a fault. He will do anything and everything to ensure that person’s safety, even if it brings him pain. However, there is a deep fear that his love for those surrounding him is a curse. That he’ll only bring destruction and pain to those he cares about.

He also tends to be the man to make hard decisions. Because of the way he’s perceived, people tend to rely on him for difficult tasks, thinking he is cold hearted which couldn’t be further from the truth. He just tries to see the reality of things, and knows sometimes the best option for the greater good is the hardest one. He will push past those hard decisions and take the burden onto himself, which both shows his self-sacrificing tendencies and lack of self preservation.

But don’t be mistaken, he is capable of doing terrible things and has done them.

And although he is capable of terrible things, he also tries his best to do good in the world. While he might complain about it, he still loves forming connections and teaching younger ones about the world, fighting and other things that will aid in their survival of anything the world could throw at them. He can be quite gentle and caring to younger ones, often seen as a parental figure or big brother of sorts to some of the mutants at the institute.

He also has a dry sense of humor carried by his sharp tongue. His jokes tend to be made at the expense of others. Whether that’s nicknames, jabs, or full on insults depends on his mood.

Other Details.

・Because of the trauma of killing his father, his body tried to heal the memories away. His childhood memories are almost non-existent to him, even after regaining his memories that were taken during the Weapon X experiment.

・Has animal empathy (It’s touched upon briefly in The Wolverine.) He can feel animals’ emotions and intentions. He can also make his own intentions clear to them, It can be through pheromones or body language. (Mostly wild animals such as wolves, badgers, bears, foxes, wolverines.)

・He started smoking cigars to mask the overwhelming amount of smells he can pick up, since his sense of smell is stronger than even a dogs. It soon became a habit despite his inability to become addicted to substances.

・Can figure out new technology relatively easily (especially military grade), such as phones and stuff when he messes around with them enough (of course he can’t fix computers or upgrade your hard drive but he’s not a caveman. The dude has been alive for over a century, he knows how to adapt and learn.) Struggles more with the social media (not that he cares for it) aspect of technology/apps and shit like that.

・Enjoys old movies from the 50s and 60s the most. Hates action films that include a lot of gun violence (especially war films) because he’s lived through enough of it. BUT he loves all sorts of martial arts movies. The cheesier the better. Also enjoys old comedy shows, such as Three Stooges, I Love Lucy, etc. On the more modern side, he enjoys the classic Star Wars films (not a big nerd, but he’s seen them).

・(Hobbies) Working on/fixing his truck and motorcycles. The older the better (the man hates Tesla's with a passion). Shooting pool, darts, playing Texas Hold Em. Sometimes when he's bored, he hustles annoying ass men, tells them he's hustled them (not that he needs the money) in order to get them pissed off enough for a bar brawl.
